The Hungarian Parliament came to a historic decision on 17 December 2012 when it amended Hungary's Fundamental Law to include the obligation to provide the highest possible level of protection, maintenance and preservation for farmland, water stocks and biological diversity.
This provides stability, predictability and the opportunity for secure planning for those who live off agriculture. In the long term, it regulates land acquisition: in future, only Hungarian farmers may purchase Hungarian farmland. This is the beginning of a new era for agriculture. The Constitution protects Hungarian farmland, our heritage and the basis of our livelihoods, from foreign and domestic speculators alike.
