Newly bred crops breeds, as well as vegetable and fruit seed varieties have been officially recognised by the Breed Classification Council. The newest strains of the following plants have been included in the National Breed Registry by the committee: wheat, barley, rape, melon, watermelon, cauliflower, cabbage, turnip, bell peppers, tomato, sweet corn and popcorn maize, beans, cucumber and several herbs and spices.
The majority of new breeds are the result of the work of Hungarian research institutes and internationally recognised Hungarian breeders.
During the Council's December session, in addition to recognising new hybrids, it also removed several breeds from the Registry and/or did not extend the certification of breeds for which the owners had not lodged new applications.
