The European Union’s Ministers of Environmental Protection called attention to the issues of healthy lifestyle and environmental protection when they set out on bicycles from their hotel on Margaret Island to the conference on environmental protection held at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

An informal meeting of the Environmental Protection Council was organized for the first time by the Hungarian Presidency and the scientific conference held at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences was closely connected to this meeting. The main agenda of both events was water. Mr. Janez Potocnik, Commissioner of Environmental Protection, the representatives of European Parliament and the Ministers of the EU’s Environmental Protection were debating the future of the continent’s water and the protection of the European water supplies at the informal meeting held at Gödöllő this afternoon.

“This is for the first time that all the Ministers of Environmental Protection from all the 27 member states convene in Hungary who would like to use this prestigious occasion to call attention to the importance of healthy lifestyle, environmental protection and promote the popularity of bicycling” – said Mr. Sándor Fazekas Minister of Department of Rural Development before the bicycle procession set out. Representatives of the greatest Hungarian bicycling civil organizations joined the politicians in this campaign.
