Apple distributor Almarégió Ltd. has opened a new packaging plant and cold storage unit worth some one billion forints in the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County settlement of Csenger; the facility was inaugurated on Thursday.

At the inauguration ceremony, the Ministry of Rural Development's Minister of State for Agricultural Economy György Czerván said that increasing domestic apple consumption and apple exports were both important objectives for the Government.

70 percent of apple production is processed by industry, with the remainder going to public consumption. The Ministry's goal for the upcoming Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2014-2020 development period is to realise a positive change in this ratio to achieve an increase in consumption while also expanding exports, primarily to the Russian market, Minister of State Czerván said.
