The Minister for Rural Development has come to a decision regarding the tender applications for clearing natural areas and caves of discarded rubbish. Thirty-two foundations and non-profit organisations have received a total of 95.5 million Forints of financial support.
The Ministry of Rural Development primarily supported those programmes that undertook not only to collect discarded waste, but also to prevent the area in question from becoming littered in the future. The Ministry also encourages the introduction of secluded waste collection, and the further development of systems that are already in place such as in National Park Directorate offices, geographical region offices, eco-touristic facilities, exhibition locations and places of accommodation.
In addition, the Ministry also provides support towards the rehabilitation of the affected areas, and preference was given to programmes that concentrate on forming the public's approach and on prevention, which provide a long-term solution and which place greater emphasis on, for instance, keeping the given area free of litter in the future.
Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Rural Development, the Nagyboldogasszony Cave (The "Cave of Our Lady", recently found under the Matthias Church in the Castle District of Buda) will receive a makeover; certain stretches of the River Tisza will be cleaned up within the Middle Tisza section of the river; piles of discarded rubbish will be cleared from the territories of several national parks, such as in the area of Tokaj, one the Tihany peninsula, or in the Zselic conservation area.
