Twenty thousand people have volunteered to take part in the upcoming TeSzedd! ("You Pick It!") national litter collection drive during the past month, the National Waste Management Agency announced.

Some 250 "meeting points" have been designated within the framework of the "TeSzedd! - Volunteering for a Cleaner Hungary" drive, meaning this many locations have been determined as refuse collection sites so far.

According to the Agency's statement, further "meeting points" may still be designated, and volunteers may put forward their requests from the beginning of April. Registration via the www.teszedd.hu website will close on 2 May, and the litter collection drive itself will be held on 9-11 May.

The majority of applicants so far have been secondary schools, local government and enterprises, and they have designated the "meeting points" decided on so far.

The drive is being organised by the national Waste Management Agency at the request of the Ministry of Rural Development and with the involvement of the Ministry of Human Resources and the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice.

According to the Agency's statement, this year's drive will put Hungary onto the international stage, as the country is joining the European Union's "Let's Clean up Europe!" project. Within the framework of the cooperation, similar litter collection drives will be held in 28 European countries on 10 May.
