Over 150 journalists, wine columnists and food industry and gastronomy experts have been invited to participate in the professional forum an over seven hundred guests, including high-ranking German politicians, diplomats and the representatives of economic and social organisations, are expected to attend the reception at the Hungarian Embassy in Berlin on Thursday. The Hungarian Embassy in Berlin organised a harvest festival for the first time in 2011. The goal of the series of events is to increase German awareness of high quality Hungarian wines. The exhibitors are all well-known vineyards, and wines this year come from the Badacsony, Villány, Somló and Szekszárd wine regions. Seventy percent of the exhibitors were already present at last year's Hungarian Harvest, and are here again this year, which shows that they view this chance to exhibit their wines in the German capital as a valuable opportunity, the Ministry of Rural Development's Minister of State for Public Administration Géza Poprády told Hungarian news agency MTI in Berlin.

Germany and Great Britain are the most important foreign markets for Hungarian wine, and the partner for this year's event is one of the world's largest, German-based international supermarket chains, meaning there will be good opportunities for forging new business agreements, he added.

The Hungarian Association of Mangalitza Breeders is attending the Hungarian Harvest for the first time this year with a wide range of products. The showcasing of products in Berlin began on Tuesday at the Advent reception of the German Parliamentary Society, at which, following Israel, France, the United States and Poland, this year's guest of honour was Hungary.

The members of the private club, based in Berlin, include German representatives and former members of the German federal legislature, state parliaments and the European Parliament. Hungarian wines and foods made from Hungarian ingredients were served to the over one hundred German politicians and other invited guests at the exclusive reception.

According to tradition, it is always the guest of honour who decorates the Christmas tree that is erected at the Society's headquarter, which accordingly is festooned with Hungarian decorations this year. Hungarian Ambassador to Berlin József Czukor gave a speech at the event, in which, among others, the Hungarian diplomat emphasised the successful results of the economic consolidations measures Hungary has introduced wince 2010.
