Viviane Reding’s recent statements about Hungary again raise questions about her impartiality and objectivity.
After questioning the independence of Hungary’s jurisdiction in connection with the case of Francis Ciaran Tobin a few days ago, the Vice President of the European Commission expressed her opinion today that the adoption of the Fourth Amendment to the Fundamental Law threatens the independence of courts, moreover, she was speaking about the “dramatic worsening” of the situation. She made this statement at a presentation where the Hungarian judicial system received good marks in a European comparison, based on data collection by the Commission.
