Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Public Administration and Justice Tibor Navracsics and Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh have signed a Treaty on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons and an Extradition Treaty, both concluded between Hungary and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The application of the treaties will make the extradition process between the two countries and the transfer of sentenced persons simpler and faster, in addition to which they facilitate more efficient action against international crime.
The goal of cooperation on extradition is to capture defendants who seek to escape justice by travelling abroad so they may be put before the acting authorities. The transferring of criminals enables persons who are imprisoned abroad to be returned home to serve their sentences there, thus enabling their reintegration into society and affording them better opportunities to keep in touch with their families.
