Government commissioner Dr András Levente Gál had another consultation on Wednesday on behalf of the Government with the representatives of the local and international Jewish religious communities participating in the meetings of the Jewish Community Round Table.
The attendees of the consultation discussed the measures the Government is planning to take in the interest of the preservation of Jewish cultural heritage in Hungary. The exploration and the refurbishment and restoration of Jewish historical sites, even within the boundaries of international cooperation schemes, also form part of these contemplated measures. In a lively debate, the participants reviewed the place that education related to the Jewish community occupies in the National Curriculum. The experiences gained to date in connection with the renewal of the Jewish Heritage of Hungary Public Endowment also featured on the agenda.
The Government adopted a resolution last February regarding its intention to renew the dialogue with Jewish communities, on the basis of which Dr András Levente Gál maintains ongoing consultations with the representatives of Jewish communities within the framework of the Jewish Community Round Table. The goal is to achieve a wider, more intensive and more frequent dialogue on more issues; in contrast to the practices of former governments, in a legitimate manner that can also be construed in the context of public administration. The government commissioner meets with the Jewish interest representations quarterly.
The next consultation is expected to be held in September.
