On behalf of the Government, Dr András Levente Gál, Government Commissioner for coordinating the implementation of the Good State development concept, had another consultation on Thursday with the representatives of the local and international Jewish religious communities attending the meetings of the Jewish Community Roundtable.
At the meeting, attendees were given a brief overview of the Government’s plans related to the establishment of a committee of historians for studying instances of religious and ethnic intolerance in the 20th century history of the Carpathian Basin.
The participants of the meeting also gave an account of the status of talks held with Claims Conference. In this context, the Government Commissioner repeatedly seized the opportunity to stress that accurate and timely settlement, as part of a fair cooperation, is crucial to the memory of the holocaust and the fight against anti-Semitism.
At the meeting, András Levente Gál informed the representatives of Jewish communities of the changes in the persons responsible for the dialogue and communication between the Hungarian Government and the Jewish religious communities.
The Government has renewed the dialogue with Jewish communities in the past two years, and has operated the Jewish Community Roundtable more intensively and regularly. The goal is to maintain wider cooperation on more issues, more intensively and more frequently, in a lawful fashion that is also relevant to public administration, in contrast to the practices of previous governments.
