More than six hundred young people visited the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice on Saturday, on the occasion of the first ever ReGeneráció Public Administration Open Day, in which participants were able to gain an insider’s view of the work of the Ministry.

In the series of programmes, which continued until late afternoon, Ministers of State and other leaders at the Ministry gave presentations on their work, or on particularly important topics dealt with by their departments. Meanwhile the Minister, Tibor Navracsics – together with younger staff members at the Ministry – led groups of visitors around the Ministry’s building, and invited them to a discussion in his office.

The series of presentations was opened by András Levente Gál, Minister of State for Public Administration: Deputy Ministers of State Gábor Fekete and Dr. Éva Borókainé Vajdovits gave presentations on the renewal of public administration. At 10 a.m. visitors were able to see a presentation on the policy of national priorities by Orsolya Milován, Head of Department at the Department of Strategic Planning and Information, and then Minister of State Zoltán Kovács shared his thoughts on government communication.

After Government Spokesperson Anna Nagy and Minister of State for Justice Róbert Répássy, there were presentations from Erika Szabó on the renewal of regional public administration, Head of Cabinet Rita Izsák on the Roma Strategy, and Minister of State Bence Rétvári on the role of young people in public administration.

The closing presentation was by Deputy Minister of State for National Minority and Civil Society Relations Csaba Latorcai on “European Year of Volunteering 2011”.

Government Spokesperson Anna Nagy also invited young people to take part in a communications game. Visiting reporters also wrote articles and accounts of their experiences for the kormany.hu website, based on the Ministry’s Public Administration Open Day.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Justice Open Day was a continuation of last autumn’s highly successful ReGeneráció–Government Career Expo. At that event the Ministry sought to widen knowledge of its work by opening its doors to students in higher education or those who had recently graduated, and allowing a look behind the scenes of government – from the offices of Ministers of State to rooms which host the Ministry’s most important meetings.
