Deputy Prime Minister Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Public Administration and Justice handed out the awards for the winners of the contest organized for high school students ‘Competing through rights’, which has begun in 2013.

Connected to the European Year of Citizens, the English-language quiz encouraged young people right before adulthood to become more interested in knowing their rights and opportunities in the European Union. Since the autumn of 2013 three rounds of the competition took place and this year, 7th of March was the day of the international finals. This time, 15 to 17 –year- old students from Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia competed. For solving the tasks they needed all the knowledge on the EU and the Charter of Fundamental Rights what they acquired during the preparations for the first three rounds. However, the international jury consisting of diplomats from the countries concerned evaluated not only factual knowledge, but cooperation between team members, level of discussion and creativity as well.

On March 7, young people coming from four different Central European countries could meet with each other along wiht the diplomats representing their homelands in Hungary. The first place was won by the team of Croatia (Gimnazija Zagreb VII) and the reward for their hard work is a five-day study trip to Brussels. The Hungarian team scored at the second place, while the third place was took by Slovenians; hence Slovakia became fourth on the rank list.
