On Thursday Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Public Administration and Justice, and István Havas, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary, signed a strategic partnership agreement promoting closer cooperation between the business sector and the Legislature.

At the signing ceremony, the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (AmCham) said that this agreement had been awaited for a long time, and that his organisation and the government have a common goal: to increase Hungary’s competitiveness.

István Havas pointed out that for Hungary to be a target country for new investment, a high degree of trust is needed. The content of this agreement is a very important step towards the creation of this: his organisation – and through it other similar associations – can have a say in the development of individual pieces of legislation as they are ‘being born’.

Dr. Navracsics announced that such an agreement is meaningful if there is a common ‘foundation’. He said that this foundation is a joint commitment to increasing competitiveness – a goal which the government has been working hard towards since its formation. The Minister said that the Cabinet had needed to enact many painful measures, and that there is a need for allies in every initiative aimed at promoting economic growth.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the agreement that has been signed is a very great step towards increasing competitiveness , and is important even if the parties do not agree on everything in the various future consultations, as it is a vehicle for ‘ increasing our knowledge’. He went on to say, ‘I believe in win-win games’.
