According to the Minister of State of the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice, the Government established a firm legislation on family law in the recent years and the new Civil Code, which will enter into force on 15 March, focuses on the interests of children. Bence Rétvári spoke about these matters at the press conference in Budapest held this Friday; pointing out that due to the new rules, conditions became more predictable and supportive of childbearing.
He mentioned as well that significant number of rules related to families referring to family tax system and obligations of children regarding their parents are also entailed in a Cardinal Act, which enhances predictability.
Minister of State of the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice also mentioned that rules related to adoption became simplified; hence the rate of adoptions grew by 15 percent. He pointed out the importance of the new law; these children could also have families.
As Bence Rétvári noted, the state must provide opportunity to children to really be born. He referred to a research conducted by the University of Semmelweis in 2013, which showed there were hardly any young people who did not want to have children and 70 to 80 percent out of them would like to live in a marriage.
He said that although the period of marriage and childbearing is increasingly extended, but on the long run definitely the marriage is the most popular form of unions; adding the Fundamental Law protects the institution of marriage as a community formed between a man and a woman. Bence Rétvári highlighted the provisions as well of the Civil Code related to family, protection of marriage and best interests and rights of children. In addition, in the wake of the Government’s actions, child support system has been expanded and many more types of support are available, as he pointed it out.
