Enormous public interest was attracted by the award of the audience prize for the fashion show ‘Rethink/re-button! Magyar is the Mode’ on 8 May. The winner was Rita Gallatz, who received 2,181 votes from the more than 22,000 cast by the public. She received the prize from Borbála Papp-Váry, Deputy Minister of State for Government Communication and Gábor Kopek, Rector of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.

The competition was jointly organised by the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice (also responsible for the management of the national brand), Design Terminál non-profit organisation, and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, with the intention of drawing attention to the economic potential of the creative industry.

The best thirty-five designs were presented on 8 May at a large-scale fashion show in the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts. The audience prize was awarded on the basis of votes from those who followed the event on its Facebook fan page.

Rita Gallatz’s winning design – called ‘Connections’ (Kapcsolatok) – was inspired by the ‘written’ embroideries of the Kalotaszeg region of Transylvania, which became the elements of her haute-couture pieces.
Borbála Papp-Vary believes that by making the fashion show an event open to everyone and giving the public the chance to vote, the ‘Rethink/Re-button!’ campaign could become a joint project of real value in Hungary.

It has proved that Hungarian traditional folklore and contemporary trends are compatible, and that the collections displayed were popular and attractive to a young audience. The winner received a porcelain plate specially made for this occasion by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, a Galaxy Mini smartphone offered by Samsung, and HUF 200,000.
