Another youth support office opened in Budapest, this time on the Buda side. Péter Mihalovics, Ministerial Commissioner in charge of the future of the new generation recalled at the opening of the Buda Youth Support and Contact Point Office in District II that the New Generation Programme was adopted by the Government one year ago.
Strengthening communication between adolescents and policy-makers is one of the core goals of the programme, along with establishing the National Youth Council, a joint advocacy platform for associations and foundations. Another priority involves providing help to young people in making decisions - about either career choices or choice of partner - that will affect their entire lives.
The Ministerial Commissioner called setting up the network of Contact Point Offices the third key pillar. Twenty such points will start operation around the country, with one office at each County seat and at two locations in Budapest, in Districts II and VIII. There are young counsellors working at the offices, not just providing information to visitors, but also actively reaching out to adolescents and finding their way to integrate into the local youth community scene, Péter Mihalovics said.
János Fónagy, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of National Development, highlighted that the District II Contact Point affords an excellent opportunity for personal meetings, which he intends to leverage himself.
