Under the professional management of the developer Hungarian Road Management Company, a 3.2 km long section of the side road connecting Pápa and Szilsárkány in Győr-Moson-Sopron County has been reconstructed.

As an investment of the National Infrastructure Development Company, the Rába bridge at Marcaltő has undergone full-scale reconstruction. The reconstruction of the 8.8 km section of the Pápa-Szilsárkány side road at Veszprém was completed at the end of last year. The inauguration of the three investments worth HUF 2.3 altogether was held near the village of Szany on 5 June, 2013, attended by Minister of State for infrastructure Pál Völner.

The first full-scale side road reconstruction project in Hungary this year has been completed within the framework of New Széchenyi Plan on Road No. 8408 connecting Pápa and Szilsárkány. The reconstruction of the altogether 3.2 km road section started from the county border of Veszprém and 140m of the section concerned is within the boundaries of Szany. The project managers selected through a public procurement procedure reinforced the road surface, carried out roadside and ditch management and improved water drainage along the section concerned. The reconstruction work also included raising a dam in the flood basin. In the HUF 805 m investment, the flood basin bridge over the Rába in Szany has also been fully renovated. This project is closely related to the reconstruction of the 8.8 km road section connecting Pápa and Szilsárkány in Veszprém County, where the work with a budget of HUF 878 m altogether was completed at the end of 2012.

As an investment of National Infrastructure Development Company, the Rába bridge at Marcali on Road 8408, has also been reconstructed and was opened for traffic in April 2013. The bridge, situated close to the common border of Győr-Moson-Sopron, Vas and Veszprém Counties, was built in 1949 and has not undergone any major reconstruction in the 60 years that have passed since then. As a result of the development, the carrying capacity of the bridge has grown to 40 tons, so the weight restriction of 20t in force for many years has now been lifted. The reconstruction work involved replacing the dilatation structures and the road surface on and around the bridge, adding an anti-corrosion protective cover to the steel surfaces and a new insulation layer to the bridge structures. The reconstruction of the 120m long and 9m wide bridge was HUF 636 m, completely financed from the state budget.

The implementation of the projects can be of enormous help for the tens of thousands people living in the area; the reconstructed side road sections and bridges make access to schools, kindergartens, work places and public institutions safer and more comfortable.

Minister of State for Infrastructure Pál Völner underlined that the inauguration of the first side road section this year would soon be followed by others. Minor roads of almost 600 km all over Hungary are to be reconstructed this year, in investments managed by Hungarian Road Management Company and financed from the funds of the Regional Operational Programmes of the New Széchenyi Plan. The road management company has a development budget of some HUF 87bn, three times last year’s budget. Despite the drawn out winter operating season, work started along over 300 km, half of the total length of the sections to be renovated, by the end of May. The technical acceptance procedures of projects launched this year are to be performed successively, starting in the first weeks of June.
