The Energy Working Group of the Russian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation held its third meeting in Budapest on 16 September 2013, where the parties discussed energy cooperation and business opportunities between the two countries. The session was attended by officials from the relevant Hungarian and Russian ministries, and also members of the organisations active in energy market relations between the two countries.
The parties during the meeting of the working group agreed that the open issues between the intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline and the EU’s third energy package should be clarified as soon as possible.
The parties declared that they would examine the innovative fields of the use of natural gas in Hungary. They expressed their willingness to cooperate by using condensed and liquid natural gas (CNG, LNG) in community transport, involving much less carbon dioxide emission than petrol based fuels. The participants of the meeting unanimously supported the organisation of a joint conference on the subject and the identification of further cooperation opportunities in the use of clean fuels.
In the field of nuclear energy, the parties welcomed the successful negotiations about the review of the tripartite international treaty of Russia, Hungary and Ukraine on nuclear fuel transport.
