With approval of the Ministry of National Development, renovation of minor roads registered under four and five-digit numbers is expected to start along nearly 945 km this year in the framework of the Regional Operational Programmes under the New Széchenyi Plan. In the first project to start on 21 March 2012, HUF 256 million will be used to renovate the 3 km road connecting Kerkafalva and Nagyrákos in Zala county. 47.2 km road may be renovated in the Western Transdanubia region from the funds allocated under the New Széchenyi Plan.

Road 7417 connecting the locations Kerkafalva and Nagyrákos is one of the important north–south public road connections of the Hetés region between Zala and Vas counties. This road provides an alternative route to the frontier crossing point Rábafüzes through the Őrség region and the Zala Hills.

In the framework of the project just about to start, the 2.7 km long road leading from Kerkafalva to Nagyrákos will be renovated. Road section development will be performed by the consortium Közép-Nyugat ROP 2013 and require a total amount of HUF 256 million. Works are planned to be completed by September this year.

In the course of renovation, the road section will be modernised, the surface will be reinforced, and faults will be repaired in order to allow smoother traffic. The road surface will be extended, drainage ditches will be made on both sides and the exisisting ditches will be cleaned in order to improve drainage. The renovated road between Kerkafalva and Nagyrákos will considerably improve access to the Hetés region.

This project will be followed by several others concerning four- and five-digit registration numbers all over the country. According to the plans the renovation of road sections on altogether 945 km for about HUF 70 billion may be launched in 2012.
