Airport Debrecen (AD) registered an important rise in its passenger traffic last year due to the fact that Hungary’s low-cost airline Wizzair has launched scheduled flights from the airport to several European destinations, including Eindhoven, Milan and London.
The new destinations open up new European travel perspectives for residents in the region. Furthermore, the transfer to Milan also provides access from Debrecen to the most important overseas destinations.
Debrecen is Hungary’s second largest city in terms of population. After 30 thousand passengers in 2011, the airport’s passenger traffic exceeded 50 thousand last year with traffic expected to increase further to 100 thousand passengers in 2013.
With a view to enhancing the region’s airline connection to global destinations, the logistical and cargo development of Airport Debrecen is considered as a priority economic project by the Hungarian Government.
