Minister of National Development Zsuzsa Németh represents Hungary at the Ministerial meeting of the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in the French capital on 19 November 2013. At the event, energy ministers and top managers of the largest corporations in the energy industry exchange views on issues of competitiveness and climate change and discuss directions for the future operation of the organisation.
The participants of the ministerial meeting of the Governing Board represent over two thirds of global energy production and more than four fifths of global energy consumption. Numerous analyses and political consultations published and conducted since the previous meeting in 2011 have made it clear that the global energy map is changing. The common economic and environmental challenges require coordinated measures based on strong authorisation. The steps of international cooperation must be adjusted to expectations changing alongside with a changing environment.
The plenary discussions are to be continued by round table discussions and section sessions. In the second half of the two-day programme, the Hungarian delegation is to be headed by Minister of State for Energy Affairs Pál Kovács and OECD Ambassador István Mikola.
At the discussions, the delegations are also to exchange views on the findings of the recently published World Energy Outlook 2013 of IEA. The Central European presentation of the volume on global energy policy predictions, to be attended by chief economist of the organisation Fatih Birol, is to be held by the Ministry of National Development in Budapest, on 5 December 2013.
