Making budget resources available will enable the construction of a more than 2 km long, new main road in the 17th district of Budapest. Ferihegyi út will help ease traffic in the eastern part of the city and improve the life quality of the inhabitants of the area, Minister of National Development Zsuzsa Németh said in Budapest on March 4, 2014.
When we announced the programme of Hungary’s renewal, we strove for tangible and visible results that would make everyday life easier. The government has subsidised this investment with the aims to improve the living quality of the inhabitants of Rákoshegy and surroundings and to let the investment facilitate proportionately easing the north/south bound road traffic arriving in East Budapest, Zsuzsa Németh emphasised.
In 2012, government funds of HUF 630 million were allocated to the first phase of the development of Ferihegyi út, the Minister recalled. The construction of the 950 m long section was completed in 2013; the technical inauguration took place in January 2014.
For the investment goals to be completed, it is necessary to proceed with the work begun and continue the road construction. The government has therefore separated budget resources of 670 m for the implementation of the second phase as well, the Minister announced.
In 2013, the Ministry, which is also responsible for transport, launched two very significant road refurbishment programmes, the Minister recalled, which are to be continued soon. The national road refurbishment programme announced last autumn targets solving the most pressing problems: eliminating ruts and road surface unevenness. From the total allocation of HUF 33 billion, permanent road condition improvement has begun on stretches of more than 565 km. Within the framework of the other programme, the full-scale refurbishment of minor roads of some 700 km along 110 sections is to be implemented from the New Széchenyi Plan funds, in a value of HUF 82 billion.
In addition to the programmes targeting roads in a critical condition and minor roads, a new programme also to cover motorways is to be launched in the near future, Zsuzsa Németh pointed out. From EU funds worth HUF 49 billion, refurbishment is to start on 314 km this year. Work is expected to commence this autumn, to be completed on all sections by the end of next year.
