Based on the proposal of Minister of National Development Tamás Fellegi, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán appointed Dr Tamás Iván Kovács Deputy State Secretary in charge of European Union and International Matters of the Ministry of National Development with effect from 1 August 2010.

In his capacity as head of the above specialized field, Iván Tamás Kovács will be primarily responsible for liaison with partner countries. Owing to the next-year Hungarian EU Presidency, the Ministry of National Development will also have several responsibilities. The Deputy State Secretary will direct the European Union co-ordination of energetics, development policy, telecommunications and transport.

Tamás Iván Kovács has a wide-ranging EU official past: since 2007 he has been the Official in Charge of International Relations of the European Anti-Fraud Office of the European Commission in Brussels. Formerly he was a general government official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Tamás Iván Kovács, who speaks several languages and graduated from the Faculty of Law of Eötvös Loránd University, studied law and international relations in the United States of America.
