The anniversary of Ybl Miklós’s death, 22 January, is also the day of Hungarian culture and the starting day of the Ybl Miklós Memorial Year – a year dedicated to the outstanding work of the architect, who was born 200 years ago.
"Ybl Miklós left as our inheritance the joy of discovering his work, but also the responsibility of protecting his work", the Ministry of Interior's Parliamentary State Secretary Károly Kontrát said at the press conference launching the Ybl Year.
Government Commissioner László L. Simon, Chairman of the Ybl Committee, emphasised that almost 200 programs will take place during the year as the result of a wide cooperation, to which the National Cultural Foundation (NKA) has contributed HUF 100 million in funding. The Commissioner emphasised that the Ybl Year will also put contemporary artists of architecture in the spotlight.
One of the outstanding events of the Yble Year will be the inauguration of the Castle Garden Bazaar, which has been under renovation and construction since 2012. The aim of the renovation work is not only the protection of the building, but also the creation of a new cultural centre. The Minister of State added that the first stage of reconstruction will end in March and the building will then be inaugurated by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
