The goal, that the prisons should be self-sufficient, remains – said Sándor Pintér, the Minister of Interior at the press-conference held for the official hand over of the Metropolitan Penal Institution’s Gyorskocsi street object.

The Minister underlined that the government’s program promised to increase the public security, the first step of which was the enlargement of police personnel. The statistics show increase in apprehending criminals, however the placement of prisoners in human conditions requires renovation and reopening of prisons.

Antal Kökényesi, the National Commissioner of Penal Institutions said that the reopening of the Gyorskocsi street object, which was closed and temporarily emptied for financial reasons in 2009, is appropriate since the number of convicted in 2011 has increased by 800 people in comparison to the number of last year. The renovation, in which forty prisoners assisted, has the total value of more than HUF 100 millions. The bathrooms, the roof, the staircases, and also the areas of accommodation have been renewed, added the Lieutenant General.
