Sándor Pintér, the Interior Minister found effective the reconciliation of the United States and the European Union's ministers of justice and home affairs - was said on Thursday at the press conference, the final act of negotiations in Gödöllő.
Sándor Pintér said that the meeting served the better cooperation. The parties could proceed in all items on the agenda, and that will also help to ensure greater security of the EU and the U.S. citizens in the future.
The Minister noted, all themes were related to questions of law and order and public safety. There was a great consensus among the participants of the conciliation meeting regarding the actions against terrorism. Among the issues discussed, the Minister pointed out the confiscation of property, such as the possibility of penalties for the offenses. Then he added that "In future, this sanction should be more effectively applied."
Tibor Navracsics, the Minister of Justice and Administration assessed the meeting as success, since the meeting between the EU and U.S. representatives to sign an agreement establishing a comprehensive data protection has been officially launched. The Deputy Prime Minister believes that this process will take place through a number of negotiations and hopes that it will end with an agreement at high level.
Tibor Navracsics highlighted the effectiveness of the Cyber Crime Conference, where the representatives of the two parties could exchange their views on the new ways in cyber crime and on the forms of actions against that. According to the Deputy Prime Minister’s opinion the actions against those criminal activities should be undertaken in closer co-operation, and in a more coordinated way. The Thursday's talks provided a good basis to do so.
Janet Napolitano, the U.S. Interior said that the Protection Convention to be developed in future would allow better exchange of information on air transport, passenger and freight transport, that will ensure that the air traffic should not be the object of attacks. The cyber security and the prevention of attacks on critical infrastructure networks were also discussed at the meeting, as mentioned.
Eric Holder, the U.S. Minister of Justice said that his county considers the cooperation with the European Union of great importance. In order to increase the efficiency of combating drug crimes, he highlighted that the countries should share the information at their disposal with each other.
Cecilia Malmström and Viviane Reding, the Justice and Home Affairs Commissioners participated in the negotiations on behalf of the European Union, while Poland holding the next EU presidency was represented by Krzysztof Kwiatowski, the Minister of Justice, and Jerzy Miller, the Interior Minister.
