Sándor Pintér and Ivica Dačić talked about the possibilities of cooperation between the Hungarian and Serbian police in Budapest on Thursday, after they negotiated bilateral agreements aimed at enhancing public safety in the two countries.

Sándor Pintér said the basic objective of the meeting was to increase the public safety of the two countries to an even higher level. To this end, they reviewed the agreements concluded previously between Hungary and Serbia, evaluated their performance, and also discussed how to make the cooperation between the two countries even better.

The Interior Minister has also mentioned that they would like to raise the border control activity to a higher level in the future –for that reason, adequate staff and guidance has been appointed.

Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić thanked Hungary for the provided help in promoting Serbia's EU integration Dačić said that a committee, which deals with illegal border crossing, has been set up in Serbia. They agreed with Sándor Pintér that this working group will be related to the Hungarian Ministry of Interior and the police, since it is in the two countries' common interests and aims to reduce the number of illicit use of the asylum status.

Dačić in his answer to the question related to the Hungarians in Vojvodina said that they wish to change the Police Act this year, as it currently does not allow the individuals of dual citizenship belong to the Serbian police.

The two Interior Ministers agreed that from now, the achieved results of objectives mutually set will be controlled, and new objectives will be set each year so that the two neighbouring nations could live in peace and friendship.
