The Ministers of Interior of the Central European region met in Romania to discuss minimising the number of cyber crimes.

Hungary is committed to the battle against all forms of cyber crime and to increasing computer security – emphasised Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér at the Salzburg Forum ministerial conference in Bucharest.

Minister Pintér said regional cooperation had so far led to last year’s common strategy and the numerous institutional reforms that have enabled a more effective intergovernmental cooperation aimed at increasing computer security. He added that there have also been serious amendments to legislation in connection with illegal contents. The Salzburg Forum is working under a Romanian presidency during the second half of 2013.

In 2009, the European Council accepted the Stockholm Program that set the main directions for internal and justice-related politics between 2009 and 2014 within the EU. As the program is reaching its end, a new strategic document is now being prepared. The ministers agreed that the Salzburg Forum countries need to play a prominent role in its elaboration.

At the conference, the participants as well as representatives from the Western Balkan countries and Moldova discussed the issues of illegal migration. The next forum will be hosted by Slovakia in the first half of 2014.
