According to Parliamentary State Secretary Károly Kontrát, the number of border guards will increase by 600 by the end of the year. Their recruitment and is currently under way.
The State Secretary added that the officers will mainly be posted along the Hungarian-Serbian border, since the number of illegal migrants along entering Hungary along this section of the country's borders has increased significantly. In 2012, the total number of illegal immigrants was 2700, whereas in the first nine months of 2013 this number has already reached 15 thousand.
DownloadAccording to the State Secretary, the increase in the number of border control guards will further improve people's sense of security.
He reminded those present that in 2010 the Government declared that the number of police officers must be increased to re-establish order in Hungary. This goal has been reached; over the past three and half years number of police officers has increased by 3500.
Mr. Kontrát also added that 1543 new district units have been established, manned by a total of 3373 police officers, in addition to which a further 4200 reserve police officers are also available for duty throughout the country.
Today in Hungary, people feel safer and more secure than during the rule of the previous government, the Parliamentary State Secretary added.
