„Terrorism is a great threat to world and democracy this is why – with respect to human rights – we need to strengthen democracy and security” – said Interior Minister Sándor Pintér on the international conference “Terrorism and Democracy in the 21st Century” organised by the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Interior (BTT) and the Counter Terrorism Centre (TEK).

Mr Pintér stressed that continued technical development is required for combating terrorism and preventing terrorist actions.

“We need to know their thoughts and must be faster than they are”- emphasized the Minister, and added that “in the always developing world we have to react faster”.

The Minister of Interior said that the conference aims to provide a forum for the fight against terrorism where experts from all over the world can share their experiences and discuss their methods.

Mr Pintér pointed out that “it is essential to protect fundamental human rights during the fight against terrorism.”

He also emphasized the need for cooperation: terrorism can only be combated through global collaboration.

“We fight against violence and hatred and for the protection of democracy” – said Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis. The Ambassador of the United States to Hungary expressed her gratitude to the Hungarian government for cooperating with her country in the fight against terrorism.

Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis and Sándor Pintér drew attention to the importance of national collaboration, since “democratic values can be protected only this way”

János Hajdu General Director of TEK expressed his hope that the conference will promote dialogue between the parties and prevention of terrorism could be more effective.
