Connected to the new EU Anti-Trafficking Day (18 October) the Ministry of Interior launches a new Facebook site entitled Anti-Human Trafficking Hungary.

The initiative serves several purposes: one of them is informing 16-26 year old persons about human trafficking and providing useful and apprehensible information. At the same time our goal is to maintain contact with similar social media sites, in order to represent Hungarian efforts internationally as well as develop public awareness. Last year on the occasion of the European Union Anti-Trafficking Day a thematic governmental site was launched in Hungarian and in English. (www.eberkereskedelem.hu and www.thb.kormany.hu) The aim of the site is to provide information, serve as a contact point and based on the experiences since its launch, it proved to be successful. The website also supports the Blue Heart Campaign of the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime.

The Ministry of Interior, as the national coordinating organization of anti-trafficking, considers providing the necessary information to form public awareness and prevent people from becoming victims. An informative program took place this year at Sziget Festival that managed to reach around 1000 Hungarian and foreign youngsters. In previous years several campaigns were organized with the aim of preventing victimisation.

The European Union Anti-Trafficking Day was organized for the sixth time this year, on 18 October. The aim of the initiation is to draw attention to human trafficking, its severity and the role of citizens in combating it. The most important event usually takes place in Brussels, organized by the European Commission, joined by numerous European countries, including Hungary.
