The Baranya county prison will be less crowded due to the new quarters that were handed over in Pécs by Deputy State Secretary László Tóth and András Csóti, head of the Hungarian Prison Service.
The HUF 86 million investment that raised the number of places by 24, is the first step of a program concentrating on developing more spacious prisons in Hungary.
The amount covered the building of several new cells and offices with the help of inmates. New protective grids were installed; doors and windows were changed along with the water, gas, and heating systems. New electric tools, mechanic system, fire-security equipment were also developed along with new cell doors.
The investment was necessary since the Baranya-based institute is one of most crowded prisons in Hungary, the utilization rate sometimes reached 180-200%.
