Hungary has faced particularly serious challenges this year due to growing illegal migration and an increase in the number of asylum seekers.

By 25 September 2013, the number of asylum seekers in Hungary reached 15 204 and by the end of the year the number is expected to approach 20 thousand. This is an extreme burden for the Hungarian asylum system, in view of the fact that asylum seekers need to be accommodated and taken care of, and their legal issues need to be settled. To ease this burden and to replace exhausted supplies, the European Commission is providing more than HUF 440 million in emergency support for Hungary.

After the Commission’s visit to Hungary, it was determined that the financial aid is required and the request for emergency support was granted on 29 November 2013.

With the help of the financial aid, several human resource issues can be settled: reorganisation will take place and new employees will be hired. This ensures that the excessive amount of legal documentation can be taken care of in due time. Several building in the reception camps will also be reconstructed and extended.
