Accepting the invitation of the Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér, Georgia’s Interior Minister Ivane Mirabisvili, arrived to Budapest on Monday.

Sándor Pintér said at the press conference held after the consultation: the two parties reviewed police activities and anti-corruption decisions which help the work of Hungarian authorities.

“We have reviewed various opportunities for a joint training, the field of EU-requirements, the fight against drugs and the actions to prevent illegal migration” – stated the Hungarian Minister of Interior.

Mr Pintér emphasized: he hopes to sign a Strategic Cooperation Agreement by August 2012.

Mr Mirabisvili held the discussion on cooperation opportunities between the two Ministries successful.

“Hungary is one of those countries that effectively helps the integration of Georgia into the European Community” – underlined the Georgian Minister of Interior. He also added that “Georgia wishes to be a member of the European family in all fields of relations.”

During the negotiations the Hungarian party handed over the draft of the Hungarian-Georgian bilateral implementation protocol of the Agreement between the European Union and Georgia on the readmission of persons residing without authorisation signed on 22th of November 2010.

The European Union established a visa facilitation agreement with Georgia, which entered into force on 1st of March 2011 during the Hungarian presidency. Within its frame Georgian citizens obtain admission into the European Union and Hungary by reduced visa fee and easier than before.

Georgia is member of the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative. As a result, intensive cooperation is in progress in the field of Homeland Affairs between the Member States and Georgia, which mostly concentrates on migration and border management.
