The local government of Miskolc has 35.2 billion forints of debt out of which 17 billion forints will be taken over by the state – said Minister Sándor Pintér at a press conference in Miskolc.

The Minister of Interior reminded that the government focuses on minimizing the state debt and will take over the debt of municipalities with less than 5000 inhabitants.

According to the Minister meetings with larger towns are in progress and the 40-70% of their debt will be taken over by the state. He also added that by doing so the government’s goal is to prevent the repeated indebtedness.

Minister Pintér emphasized that they expect Miskolc to have a responsible budget, which ensures that in the future a similar amount of debt will not be accumulated.

Mayor of Miskolc, Ákos Kriza stated at the press conference that being liberated from half of the city’s debt is a significant help and it will be much easier to implement strategic plans in the future.
