Memorial Day for Deportation of Ethnic Germans from Hungary

On Sunday, the deportation of ethnic Germans was remembered in Hungary for the second time. It was on this day in 1946 that the first wagon set out from Budaörs, marking the beginning of the deportation of the German minorities living in Hungary.

The elimination of housing segregation and the improvement of the life quality of those living on estates were the topics of the international conference held on Thursday and Friday in Madrid, which was also attended by Zoltán Kovács, Minister of State for Social Inclusion at the Ministry of Human Resources, the State Secretariat told Hungarian news agency MTI on Friday.
Hungary remembers expulsion of Germans after WW II

Hungarian Deputy State Secretary for Minority and Civil Social Relations Csaba Latorcai attended on Friday the commemoration of the expulsion of Hungarians of German origin from Hungary in the aftermath of World War II. The commemoration was held in the German Minority’s Cultural Centre in Baja, southern Hungary.
Hungary is the first European country to host an international wheelchair rugby tournament

Budapest will be the first European venue for a wheelchair rugby tournament from January 22-25. The “Maximus Project” tournament will also be the Hungarian team’s first major domestic challenge. The six-country tournament is co-sponsored by the Ministry for Human Affairs.

Hungarian skating budget allows for good European Championships

The annual budget of the Hungarian National Skating Federation (MOKSZ) has increased to 550 million forints this year (EUR 1.84 million) from 70 million forints in 2011, allowing the country to confidently host the 2014 European Figure Skating Championships, MOKSZ President Lajos Kósa said on Tuesday at the opening press conference of the event which begins on Wednesday.
Hungary’s Richter acrobat troupe wins gold at Budapest International Circus Festival

Hungary marked the 10th Budapest International Circus Festival with its first Hungarian medallists ever: the Richter Troupe won gold with their acrobatic horse act, while high wire artist László Simet and his group were awarded a silver medal at the closing gala on 13 January.
