Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog signed agreements with Macedonia on cooperation in education and culture for the coming years today in Skopje. The Minister was part of the delegation of the Hungarian Prime Minister during his one-day visit to Macedonia.

Zoltán Balog and his Macedonian counterpart, Minister for Education and Science Spiro Ristovski signed a cooperation programme to develop and further strengthen bilateral educational relations between the two countries in line with the Balkan politics of the Hungarian Government.

In return, the Macedonian party will also offer 20 scholarships for Hungarian students to follow Macedonian language and literature studies and research in their fields of interest in Macedonia. The parties agreed that two Macedonian BSc graduates would receive scholarships to support their research in the field of information technology studies at the University of Debrecen under the National Excellence Programme.

The aim of the new cultural cooperation programme for the years of 2014-2016, signed with Macedonian Minister for Culture Elizabeta  Kanchevska Milevska, is to encourage the development of mutual cooperation between institutions and relevant associations within all fields of art and culture. The agreement facilitates mutual participation at international festivals, e.g. inviting the Macedonian party to participate in the Budapest Spring Festival and the National and International Meeting of Contemporary Arts in Veszprém. Plans for the coming years include cooperating through exchange programs within the fields of visual and applied arts, photography, design, architecture and new media art.

In addition to the above, the cooperation programme encourages the participation of Macedonian publishing houses in the publishing tenders of the Petőfi Literary Museum (PIM) – Hungarian Books & Translations Office. It supports direct cooperation between institutions and professional organisations dealing with research into the protection of cultural goods, and immovable and intangible heritage. A separate point is to support the participation of film experts in major international film events and film festivals held in each other’s countries.
