It is the Government’s high priority to assist families in home-buying and retaining the homes already in their possession. Due to the measures of the Government, hundreds of thousands of families have been saved from the loss of their homes by the introduction of early repayment schemes and exchange rate limits.

The National Asset Management program provides an opportunity for families to stay in their homes for lower rental fees than their loan repayment instalment. The Government"s recent decisions enable more disadvantaged people to join the National Asset Management program: eligibility will be underpinned not only by a marital relationship or non-marital cohabitation relationship but also by a family relationship, in addition to which sphere of eligible persons will also include disabled people with changed working abilities.

Those who have already lost their properties have the opportunity to move to the Ócsa Social Family Housing Program. Within the framework of this program, 80 families may move into their new 50 m2 properties with substantially lower rental prices. As a result of cooperation with local governments and the church, further support may be afforded by the fact that accommodation for approximately 4000 people is also ensured in temporary family housing.

The reduction in overhead expenses is also a substantive Government measure to support families. The Government is also ready to help those who are threatened by eviction despite available Government support. Currently, negotiations are being held with the Bank Association in order to help families, and with the local governments with regard to the renting of local government apartments based on social assistance and to facilitate further solutions.
