According to the announcement by the Prime Minister’s Office, in the 2011 budget the Government will increase the subsidies to sports to more than one and a half times as high as compared to the present sports budget of HUF 16 billion.
Gábor Balogh, the Prime Minister’s counselor of sports, considers as especially important that next year more budget resources will be spent on the development and maintenance of state, municipality and other sports facilities.
2011 will see, among others, the renovation of the “Puskás Ference” Stadium, that of Olympic centers, while a special attention will be paid to the development of sports facilities of local public educational institutions as well.
The goal of the Government is to provide an appropriate environment to pupils and students for physical exercises and to introduce daily physical training in schools as from the 2011/2012 school-year. In 2011 there will be more resources available for supporting professional sports, too as next year will be a period of intensive preparation for the London Olympic Games. To make the London Olympic Games successful for us, our athletes have to be given every possible support. In addition, the funds allocated to leisure time sports will also grow for the establishment of a healthy balance between professional sports and leisure time sporting. The target of Gábor Balogh is to increase the share of sports in EU aids as compared to former EU development plans. To this end he collected the prime sports investments in the country, which may greatly contribute to the development of domestic sports. He initiated to integrate an as large part of them as possible in the New Széchenyi Plan.
