The salaries of 150,000 teachers will increase by 34 percent on average as of 1 September 2013, Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog announced.
The Minister said that as part of the new career model for teachers also to be introduced in September, wages will rise every year until 2017.
Teachers’ wages will increase by a total of 60 percent by 2017.
The Minister added that wage rises will be higher at the start of their career in order to make the profession more appealing to young people, resulting in a more just and predictable wage system.
State secretary for education Rózsa Hoffmann said that the new system awards teachers on the basis of their performance.
