Hungarian state funding for obstetrics hospitals – such as the two pieces of diagnostics equipment and the 10 million forints (EUR 32,000) grant provided by the joint foundations of the Ministry for Human Resources and the University to the maternity clinics of Semmelweis University – serve the goal of having more children delivered in good health, Minister of State for Family and Social Affairs Miklós Soltész said at a press conference on Tuesday.
He also praised the late paediatrician Dr. András Nobilis, who died early this year, the founder of Hungarian neonatal intensive care. He said the country not only owes him a debt of gratitude, but is also bound to continue his work.
Mr. Soltész said the new equipment will raise the level of care for pregnant women as it will allow laparoscopic surgery, thus reducing the risk of complications. Professor Ágoston Szél, Rector of the Semmelweis University said that the new equipment will allow them to perform operations that so far could either not be performed or only performed at greater risk. He added that the University hospital performs the largest number – 1,500 – of laparoscopic gynaecological operations in the country.
