A total of 33.1 billion forints (EUR 111m) has been allocated in extra funding to 93 hospitals for paying their overdue bills for suppliers, the Minister of State for Healthcare Miklós Szócska announced on Wednesday.
It has been an important goal to support as many hospitals as possible, Mr Szócska said, adding that hospitals have been asked to possibly pay their oldest arrears.
He noted that separate consultations had been held with the 12 most indebted health institutions that had made commitment to cut costs worth up to 12 billion forints, 6.5 billion of which had already been implemented. The largest amount, more than 2 billion forints, has been provided to the Hospitals and University Educational Hospital in Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg county in eastern Hungary.
The budget for the transport service of patients has been increased by 250 million forints (EUR 842,000) with the aim of compensating for fuel price increases, he said.
