Public education may serve as a basis for the improvement of higher education, said outgoing Minister of State for Education Rózsa Hoffmann.

The Office of the Minister of State previously told Hungarian News Agency MTI that Ms Hoffmann will become Minister of State for Public Education, while the new Minister of State for Higher Education will be István Klinghammer, former rector of ELTE University.

Rózsa Hoffmann stated that everyone has the right to demonstrate against the reform of higher education, but in order to have constructive dialogue, it has to be made clear what exactly the problems are. She also noted that two weeks ago, during a visit to Szeged in Southern Hungary, she had a constructive debate with students and they will be meeting again later today.
According to the Government’s decision, the number of state-subsidised university places will increase, she said, adding that students whose university studies are paid from taxpayers’ money are expected serve the community by working in Hungary for 10 years. It is possible to go and work abroad if the student had signed a student contract, but the tuition fee subsidised by the State must be repaid
