Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog announced on Friday, following a consultation with representatives of the National Union of Students (HÖOK), that a roundtable on higher education will be established. Representatives of the Hungarian Rectors' Conference (MRK) and HÖOK as well as members of business life are welcome to join.

At a press conference, the Minister emphasised that since the students presented a constructive proposal worth considering on the 16 faculties which according to current plans would not offer state-funded places, negotiations have also been opened. According to plans, the parties will sign an interim agreement by January 31, he added.

President of HÖOK Dávid Nagy highlighted that significant progress had been made at the one and a half hour consultation. The students’ proposal regarding the aforementioned 16 faculties was to offer state-funded places with a higher than the average points threshold and to determine a minimum ratio for acceptance, Nagy added.
