Hungarian performing art institutions falling into the “non-qualified” but registered category – mostly independent theatres and dance companies, as well as open-air and minority theatres, receiving theatres and production companies – have been granted a total state support of 1.23 billion forints (EUR 4 million) for the year 2014, the Ministry for Human Resources said in a statement.
Out of the total, theatres received 430.4 million HUF, dance companies 208.4 million, open-air theatres 250 million, production companies 243 million and minority theatres 101 million. Out of the 132 valid applications 117 institutions were awarded state support.
The list of proposals for the state subsidies was compiled by the Ministry’s Dance and Theatre Commission respectively, based on experts’ recommendations. State Minister for Culture János Halász, acting on behalf of the Minister for Human Resources, approved the proposed list without amendments.
