On Thursday the most successful university athletes were acknowledged at the award gala organised by the Hungarian University Sports Federation (MEFS).

Swimmer Bence Biczó, judoka Abigél Joó, canoeist Tamás Kiss and the members of the men's university water-polo team, all of whom won gold medals at the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, received the „University Athlete of the Year” award from Minister of State for Sport and Youth István Simicskó, and from Co-President of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference Éva Sándorné Kriszt. The silver and bronze medallists of the summer Universiade as well as the university students who are among the winners at the 2013 World Games and world championships of different sports were also saluted at the celebration, which took place in the main hall of the Eötvös Lóránd University.

In his speech, president of the MEFS Ádám Kiss emphasised that Hungarian athletes won 15 medals at the Universiade in Kazan (4-2-9), the most successful performance in the history of Hungarian university sport since 1970.
