Social Work Day draws attention to the fact that social services help build society and to those who work in the interests of the disadvantaged, Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog said on Monday in Budapest.

At the event, Minister Balog and Minister of State for Social and Family Affairs Miklós Soltész presented awards to social workers. We would like these awards to improve the prestige and acknowledgement of those helping professions without which no society can exist, the minister stressed.

Miklós Soltész said efforts have been made to strengthen the social services and child protection sector. He highlighted that thanks to the Government’s efforts, the number of day-care places for children is increasing, social institutions are being renewed, and working conditions within the social sector are improving. Regarding wages, the Minister of State said he was aware of difficulties within the sector, but as a result of reforms the situation is expected to improve significantly next year.
