The „PROGRESS – equality without boundaries” programme of the Ministry of Human Resources focuses on topics such as people with disabilities, ethnic discrimination and solidarity between generations. The aim of this programme is to help young people eliminate prejudice and stereotypes in order to strengthen acceptance and combat discrimination.
A further aim of the programme is to assist young people age 10 - 19 years oldin gaining experience, having fun together and thus become familiar with the life of disadvantaged groups.
Colleagues of the organisations responsible for implementing the programme, Salva Vita Foundation, Boldog Ceferino Foundation and the Catholic Service of Charity Foundation organise homeroom classes focusing on equality, which are called „meeting points”. Professionals working in the field of education and equality, as well as people belonging to these disadvantages groups (so called “experience experts”) also help with these sessions. At these interactive classes the students can personally experience the every-day life of groups that may have been previously less known to them. Thus they may gain wider knowledge and may grow more open by meeting these experience experts.
This is why this EU-financed programme is called „Meeting Point” (Találkozópont).
The programme consists of three main components:
- 100 homeroom classes focusing on equality for students aged 10 - 19 years old between September and 26 November 2012;
- nationwide drawing and photo competition for elementary and secondary school students;
- an all-day long closing event on 26 November 2012, the International Day for Tolerance to be held at the Syma Event and Congress Centre in Budapest.
