The Hungarian Parliament Building hosted on Friday the awarding ceremony of a drawing competition on the themes of children’s rights to smile, to love, to sports, to a future and to protection – an event initiated by the National Documentation Centre for Patient and Children's Rights (OBDK).
“The first right of a child is to be a child, never having to face situations that even adults find difficult to cope with” – Minister for Human Resources Zoltán Balog said at the ceremony. Deputy Ombudswoman for Minority Rights Erzsébet Sándor said it was important that children be aware of their rights and how to enforce them, so that they can use that knowledge when growing up. She said many drawings presented sad realities, leaving the jury with revealing experiences.
OBKD Director General Krisztina Novák said the competition was announced on 20 November, the World Day for Children’s Rights, and the number of impressive entries led the jury to increase the number of categories and add several special awards. The winners are: Mária Alexandra Molnár (age group six to eight); Ibolya Marianna Zsákai (9-11); Rózsa Gergely (12-15); Alexandra Vajgel (16-18).
